Daniel Gildenbrand is a software engineer in New York. These days he mostly builds AI products: retrieval pipelines, assistants that know when to hand control back to a person, and interactive tools that make complicated systems legible.

Why I built this

The thing I keep coming back to is making hidden machinery visible. Show people how a system actually works, then hand them the controls. This manual is that idea pushed as far as I could take it: every simulation here is real physics you can break, and the one invented number is labeled.

I think that's how technology should treat people. Show the work. Mark the assumptions. Let them check. And if I get a vote on the future, it's the one at the end of the Record: powerful things held in common, with the ledger open.

Capabilities, actual
  • 01AI productsRetrieval pipelines, assistants and agents that cite their sources and hand control back to a person.
  • 02Interactive explainers3D and simulation-driven interfaces that make complicated systems legible. Like this one.
  • 03Full-stack webReact, Next.js and TypeScript up front; Supabase, Postgres and cloud infrastructure behind.
  • 04Simulation and dataTurning real models and datasets into something you can grab, break and check.
  • 05ShippingTaking an idea from a sketch to a deployed product, and leading the small teams that get it there.

Built with Next.js, React Three Fiber and three.js. Nuclide data from NUBASE2020. Every simulation runs in your browser; nothing is pre-rendered. Sources for each chapter are listed in its reality audit.

The key art and the reconstructed portrait were generated with AI image models and art-directed by hand. In keeping with the rest of the manual: that's labeled too.
